In response to encampment protestor demands, VIU released its investment list, which includes investments in financial organizations such as the Royal Bank of Canada that are found on the Canadian BDS Coalition’s “Boycott List of Shame.” As of May 2024, VIU held investments in WSP Global, a Canadian engineering company involved in monitoring the Jerusalem Light Rail, which connects settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) on land appropriated from the Palestinian population. VIU has suppressed student activism on campus, including by dismantling the Palestinian Solidarity Encampment on August 18th, 2024 following a court case instigated by VIU.
