In 2016, Lockheed Martin announced a $1.1 million investment in a University of Waterloo research project. The investment was announced at the University of Waterloo’s Aerospace Defence Industry Forum. Lockheed Martin is a major weapons development company with ties to the israeli military. In the spring of 2024, the University of Waterloo sued a pro-Palestinian student group for $1.5 million for setting up an encampment on campus.
