York University rapidly responded to suppress the assembly of student protest encampment in solidarity with Palestine. The university called in police one day after the encampment was erected, despite offering to establish a dialogue with protesters. The university also publicly condemned the York Federation of Students, the York Federation of Graduate Students, and the Glendon Student Union over its statement of support for Palestine that recognized the actions of Hamas as “resistance” to israeli occupation. York maintains partnerships with israeli universities, including exchange programs with Tel Aviv University and Bar-Illan University.
